Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using MPH Tester (mphtester.com), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our service.
Description of Service
MPH Tester is a free, browser-based GPS speedometer tool. The service:
- Measures your speed using your device's GPS sensor
- Displays speed in various units (MPH, KM/H, Knots, m/s)
- Provides specialized interfaces for different vehicle types
- Operates entirely in your web browser with no app installation
The service is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial use.
Accuracy Disclaimer
This is important: GPS speed readings are estimates based on satellite positioning and should not be relied upon for safety-critical applications.
Factors affecting accuracy:
- Device GPS hardware quality
- Satellite visibility (indoor, tunnels, dense buildings)
- Atmospheric conditions
- Speed (less accurate at very low speeds)
Do NOT use MPH Tester to:
- ✗ Determine if you are driving within speed limits for legal purposes
- ✗ Make safety-critical navigation decisions
- ✗ Calibrate official or certified speedometers
- ✗ Any purpose where inaccurate readings could cause harm
Always rely on your vehicle's official speedometer and follow all traffic laws.
Permitted Use
You may use MPH Tester for:
- ✔ Personal speed checking and curiosity
- ✔ Comparing GPS speed to your dashboard speedometer
- ✔ Recreational speed tracking (cycling, boating, etc.)
- ✔ Educational purposes
Prohibited Use
You may NOT use MPH Tester to:
- ✗ Engage in dangerous driving or attempt to set speed records on public roads
- ✗ Operate the service while driving (use a passenger or mount the device)
- ✗ Copy, modify, or redistribute our code without permission
- ✗ Attempt to reverse engineer or exploit the service
- ✗ Use automated systems to access the service at scale
Safe Use While Driving
If you use MPH Tester while in a moving vehicle:
- Never operate your phone while driving
- Have a passenger operate the device, or
- Use a secure phone mount and set up before driving
- Do not interact with the device while the vehicle is in motion
- Follow all local laws regarding mobile device use in vehicles
Your safety and the safety of others is more important than checking your speed.
Limitation of Liability
MPH Tester is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We do not warrant that the service will be accurate, reliable, or error-free
- We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the service
- We are not responsible for any decisions you make based on speed readings
- We disclaim all liability for accidents, injuries, fines, or other consequences
You use the service at your own risk.
Intellectual Property
All content on MPH Tester, including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, code, and design, is owned by MPH Tester or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission.
Service Availability
We strive to keep MPH Tester available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to:
- Maintenance and updates
- Technical difficulties
- Factors beyond our control
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time without notice.
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
